Week of August 31st - September 4th, 2026

Dear Families,
Welcome to the 2026 - 2027 School Year! For those joining our family this year, this is the first of a weekly communication that I send out to keep our families informed. 
Week one is under our belt. I hope that your experience with the start of this school year has been pleasant. Teachers have been instructed to contact each scholar's caregiver. If you still have not made contact with your scholars teacher, please reach out to me or the front office and let us know. There could be the need for an up to date contact information, but this is vital to your scholars safety and a productive school year. In addition to up to date information, the school district has shifted its procedure as it relates to collecting important information. In the past paper packets were given out with various forms such as emergency care cards, media opt out, medical information, etc. The new and “LEVELED UP” practice is that all of those forms are online and located in parent square. Please complete those forms. They are all important but the one that will be utilized most is the contacts and authorized persons that the Primary Caregiver(s) authorize to pick up your scholar. Since these forms are online, they can be updated instantly and at any time. Thank you for your attention to this matter. 
As we look to "Level Up" (our theme for the year) we want to make sure that we continue to provide a safe, encouraging, and inclusive learning experience for all of our scholars. For those that do not know, I have an open door policy, so any time you need my attention or would like to speak with me do not hesitate. I may get to you right away, or it may be a slight wait depending on what is going on. Each scholar is important to me.
We understand that illness, family travel, and appointments will occasionally cause absences. However, consistent attendance is critical. Here are a few helpful tips:
  • Partial attendance is better than no attendance. If possible, bring your child late after an appointment or pick them up early instead of missing the entire day.
  • Communicate with teachers in advance. If you know your child must be out, notify their teacher so they can prepare work ahead of time. Even with last-minute illnesses, please contact the school so we can support your child in making up for lost learning time.
  • Know the chronic absenteeism threshold. The district defines chronic absenteeism as 18 or more absences in a school year (10% of the year). Missing this much school—whether excused or unexcused—places students at serious academic risk, including possible retention.
  • Excused vs. unexcused absences: Both equal lost learning. Even excused absences add up, and 18 excused absences still count as chronic.
  • Tardies matter too. Frequent lateness adds up quickly. For example: arriving 30 minutes late three times equals 90 minutes—essentially an entire math block. The same is true for reading instruction.

Transportation & Safety

As a part of our Safety plans and practices we will practice drills with our scholars so in the event that we need to respond to a situation, everyone will know what to do. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Principal Smith 
We are improving our processes as we become more familiar with our scholar's method of transportation. As always, if there is a change to your scholar's normal method of transportation, please contact the office and their teacher. I ask that for the first two weeks of school that you communicate daily with your scholars teacher. Those attending Parks and Rec or Peter Paul, please be reminded that those programs will not start until 
August 31st. 
Additional Transportation Notes:
For those participating in Parent Drop Off/Pick up, please make sure to ask any staff for your scholar's unique identification number that will serve as a safety measure and method of making sure those authorized are the only ones picking your scholar up in the parent pick up line. Certainly the first day but about the first two weeks the process goes slow while we have our training wheels on, so please be patient.
In the morning it is “Kiss and Ride” style. Likewise, in the evening please stay in your car. When picking up your scholar, unless you are truly walking from the school to your doorstep, please stay in the car. It is inconsiderate of those who arrive and have a place in line. We do not start dismissal until 2:45 pm and the line is clear and empty by 2:55 pm. At 3:00 pm we relocate to the front of the school. We thank you for your cooperation and adherence to this procedure as moving forward we will be asking Caregivers to return to their car and when the cars in front of them have been served, we will serve you in an orderly fashion.
 
Busses: 
In an effort to support our efforts, please make sure you are placing your scholar on the assigned bus in the morning, and that you are at the stop to receive them in the evening.

Celebrating Birthdays

We love to celebrate our Monarch Scholars! Families may continue to recognize birthdays this year, but we ask that you:
  • Contact your scholar’s teacher before sending in any items.
  • Only provide Smart Snacks-approved items to classrooms. (Non-compliant items will not be permitted for safety reasons.)
  • Remember that we will remain sensitive to allergies and dietary needs.

Arrival & Dismissal Reminders

Arrival & Dismissal Reminders
  • Morning Drop-Off: Please use the “Kiss and Ride” style drop-off. Caregivers should remain in vehicles to keep traffic flowing. If you wish to walk your scholar in, please park in a designated parking spot.
  • Instruction starts at 7:45 am, so arriving after that means you are tardy. We transition from utilizing the back of the school for entrance, and students arriving after 7:45 am must enter the front office and receive a tardy pass.
  • Afternoon Pick-Up: Caregivers should remain in cars with their assigned pick-up number displayed. Staff will escort scholars to vehicles. Please do not come to the gym doors, as this creates safety concerns and slows dismissal.
  • Dismissal begins at 2:40 p.m. and is usually complete by 3:00 p.m. For scholars that classify as a “walker”, you may enter the back of the school or the front entrance designated as door #13 at arrival and dismissal. It is to the right of the front office if you are facing the school.
